He walks with her that night in dreams.
Hand in hand they walk. They don't speak. He feels wind rushing past him -- or perhaps it is a thousand souls, as they walk in the dark with the stars above and a river below.
They come to a door. The lettering: THE GUNSLINGER.
He doesn't want to know what is beyond. He draws back.
She smiles, and turns the knob for him.
Beyond is a blazing sunset and a field of
(blood)
roses, and lying in the field giant black stone faces, monoliths, remainders. The roses sing: come, come, come.
And blotting out the sun is dark stone the color of her eyes that rears to the sky in a declaration of sheer presence.
"Let me show you the way," she says to him, and draws him forward, and the gunslinger follows. And as he steps through the door he hears the sound of a great horn, winding Yes and Always in counterpoint with the song of the roses as he comes to the Dark Tower, and when the tears come to his eyes he wakes.

He wakes, and his cheeks are wet.
Roland rises from his bed and goes to his writing desk, where the Horn of Eld sits on top of an unopened ream of plain paper.
The voice of the Lord of Dreams: Do not lose the Horn.
His head lifts as he holds it in his hands, and goes to the window, looking out.
Outside the sun is rising.
